The West Coast
Made my way over to the West Coast to see family. First time for me in Perth. What a beautiful city.
The Perth Mint was cool. I saw the largest solid gold coin in the world. At 1 Tonne (in today's market) it is worth $213million. Stamped as a $1million coin it is legal tender. Here I understood the origins of gold and that Kalgoorlie has the largest deposit of Gold so far found on this planet. Gold was first discovered there in 1893. Since then over 58million Tonnes of Gold have been mined from Kalgoorlie. The Superpit is still operational today.
Rottness was fun to pushbike around (30.5km on a bicycle 🚲 😳 and 386m of hill elevation 😳😳) I need a massage 💆♀️ Saw a fur seal, climbed the lighthouse and met the Quokkas (cute little buggers).
Walked the longest pedestrian Jetty in Australia at Busselton. 1.8km long, declared a sealife sanctuary in 2004.
Checked out the Fremantle Prison and learnt about the Penal Colony, solitary confinement, corporal punishment (which was legal until 1993) and daily life of a prisoner. The Gaol was decommissioned in 1991, to the end of the prisons working life, inmates still used a bucket for a toilet and slept in hammocks.
The Sunsets on the West Coast are spectacular 👌
Well worth a visit.
